Chapter Meeting
January 20, 2010
The AORN meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by J.Greig,president,having a quorum present.
J. Greig Introducted Ms.Tal Sack who presented information concerning the Med-Works Project.
Ms. Sack is the coordinator for the Med-Works organization in the Greater Cleveland area. She explained about the
need for volunteers for the organization. There is a need for doctors and nurses and various other positions to serve in
the free clinics and specialty clinics, ie. dental and flu clinics. A sheet was passed around for sign-up for volunteers.
The minutes of the November 18, 2009 meeting were circulated. A motion to accept the minutes was made by P.Chapek
and a second to the motion was made by B.Bonus. The motion passed.
Financial Report
The financial report was given by D.Klak.
Monies paid out:
Outreach-$38.59/Chapter Excellence Award CD-$125./Speaker Stipend $50./Pathway brick $250./Winter
newsletter $291.50/Stamps $131.25.Also the room fee for Ursuline was paid for Jan/Feb/Mar/May 2010.
(The chapter needs to start considering if we will continue to have our meetings at Ursuline. The bookings
are in greater demand at the college, therefore the chapter needs to take this into consideration so plans are made in a
timely manner.)
The balance in the treasury after deposits and monies paid out is $24,046.37.
Update from National
• The chapter received a letter of acknowledgement of the $250 for the brick in the initiative for paving the Pathway
to Patient Safety.
• The deadline for early registration is January 25th,2010 for Congress in Denver.
• The deadline for the online delegate submission is February 5,2010, The names will be submitted by Sherry
Petryszyn since she is the Delegate Chair.
• The winners of the chapter excellence award will be announced at the Quiz bowl at Congress. There will be
reserved sitting for those chapters submitting DVD's for the competition. Each chapter is to pick a representative before
time to accept the award for the winning chapter. Our representative will be Geneva Sarratt.
• OR NurseLink introduction for chapter leaders is set for January 26,2010 @ 7:00 pm participants mustpre-register
prior to the program. This will be a demonstration on the webinar.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

• Hospitality-C.Keiser-The dinner tonight was provided by John Kurowski.
• Fund Raising-C.Keiser-thanked those who took part in the recent craft fairs. We are now considering craft fairs for
this year. The Mayfield Hts annual craft show is Sunday November 7, 2010 at 10:00am-4:00 pm, The fee is $25.00.
Deadline for registration is June 28, 2010. Those present agreed to sign up for this show.
A survey was taken to see if the chapter wants to do the shopping trip to Grove City and it was decided that the chapter
did not want to do the trip at this time. Discussion took place regarding co-sponsoring the trip with another
organization.
The Basket Raffle on April 24,2010 will be at the workshop/meeting. There is no theme just make a basket to
share. The basket can be made by merchants or by individual/s.
The letters are not available yet for the organizations considering donating baskets.
• Legislative/Ohio Council-P.Chapek
o February 20,2010 Ohio Council will meet at the Dutch Heritage restaurant in Columbus.
o The restaurant can be reached off of I-71,exit 165.
o Nurses Day at the State House is February 24,2010 in Columbus,Ohio
o The OR Circulator is still at Issue.

Introduction of visitors to the meeting was done.
• Outreach-L.Gronowski/T.Brown
There will be a Career Day at Emile DeSauze on May 5,2010 a sign up list was sent around.
A list was also circulated for Med-Wish volunteers.
• Bylaws & Policy-P.Chapek/N.Fellows-No report
• Scholarship-P.Chapek/N.Fellows-The first student scholarship was awarded to Christine Ellis.She is a nursing
student at Cleveland State University and was present to accept her $1000.00 award.
• Education-T.Washington/T.Brown-Tonights presentation on Prevention of Periop Hypothermia.
The February meeting will be on Breast Cancer and presented by Brett Vaccarelli of Medline
Industries. Dinner will be provided.
OLD BUSINESS
The April Workshop- The site is confirmed for Klein Hall at Ursuline.
The speakers are Patrick Voight and Rebecca Patton.
Topic Healthcare Policy in Nursing.
NEW BUSINESS
It is possible that a limited amount of parking may occur at the February meeting due to another
big meeting on the same night. Members may need to park at the rear of the building/the doors at
the rear of the building will be open for access from that parking lot.
Announcement
Jan Minor's husband passed away.
Jackie Lantis will be going home soon.
Leonard Dreslinski has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
