Membership Meeting Minutes of AORN Greater Cleveland Chapter
Ursuline College

President Laurie Gronowski called the meeting to order at 1900.  We have a quorum.   A motion to accept the October,
2011 membership meeting minutes was made by Patty Chapek and Barbara Bonus seconded.  The motion was
accepted and those present approved the minutes.


Treasurer’s Report:
Report deferred to next month due to illness of   Diane Klak.  October balance $17,620.83 and the balance of November
16, 2011 is $18,131.98 and includes $4.48 in interest.
Membership:
Linda Bowen reported that we have approximately 476 chapter members.

Our CE program for tonight on Surgical Site Infection is provided by Judy Seltzer of Molnlycke Health Care. If anyone
has any suggestions for educational programs for next year, please see me or a member of the educational committee.
Legislative:
Patty Chapek reported that our next Ohio Council Meeting will take place on December 10, 2011 at Hunan House at 12
noon.  Please bring a gift to exchange if you plan on attending.  This will be our last holiday gift exchange.  Our dues of
$15 will also be collected.  Please respond to the email, if you plan to attend when it arrives.   Nurses Day at the state
capital in Columbus is February 29, 2012.
    Communication:                                                                                                                        Linda Bowen asked for
a motion to continue retain Morgan Litho to prepare our news letter layout.  Even though we                 move to online
copies only, they still need layout.  Patty Chapek moved and Linda Bowen seconded to continue to                         use
Morgan Litho.  Motion carried.  Our last newsletter mailing will take place on December 17, 2012 at the
home                         of Nancy fellows at 9AM. Please view your news letter on Ohio Nurse Link or our website.  Please
contact me or                         Sherry Petruszyn if this is a problem for you.
Fund Raising:
Clare Keiser reported that we receive $500 profit from the Premier Jewelry Event of October 22, 2012.  Laurie
Gronowski discussed the Wine Tasting Event April 14 2012 from 6PM – 8PM in Chesterland at Colonial Beverage.
Laurie asked for a motion to set ticket prices at $35.  Linda Bowen moved and Clare Keiser seconded to set ticket price
at $35.  This includes hot and cold pasta trays, appetizers and cheese trays and wine tasting.  We will also 10 baskets
to raffle.  Please work as a team so we may have ten large baskets or large themed baskets.  Clare Keiser discussed
our plans for October 20, 2012 ride on the Cuyahoga Railroad.  Tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for children.  We
will raffle off Polar Express Tickets on the train.         
Hospitality:
Clare Keiser reporting – We would like to thank Heather Mangold, RN, BSN of Biogel for providing our dinner tonight.  In
January we will combine our hospitality dinner with a fund raising.  We will have our dinner catered from Stancotto’s
which will include:  chicken, vegetables, beef and gravy, salad, and lemon square desert.  The cost of $15 per dinner will
provide a $3 donation to our treasury.         
    Outreach:  
Laurie Gronowski reported that we received a thank you notes from:   ”Mentor Public Schools Career Exploration” for
our help with their career exploration ; Robin Massaro of Premier Jewelry for allowing her to participate in our fund
raising event and “Women Safe the Green House” for providing school supplies. Our Periop Nurses Week activity
“Behind the OR Doors East (Beachwood Surgery Center) had 43 kids and 33 adults and the West (Fairview Surgery
Center) event had 73 kids and 50 adults.  We could not have had a successful program without all of your help.  Thanks
again to all the volunteers.  Patty Chapek reported that 2 scholarship applications have been received from senior
nursing students.
Old Business:
The Chapter Award was prepared and submitted by Julie Cahn.  Patty Chapek reviewed our chapter donate to the
AORN Foundation.  We usually give 1$ per member.  This will be rounded up to $500 and will be sent January 2012.  
Cindy Tucker discussed dates we can volunteer to sort surgical instruments at Med Wish 11/19, 12/3, 12/17.  Our
contact person is Angieagermano@medwish.com .  Their address is 17325 Euclid Ave; Cleveland, Ohio 44112.  The
following members are eligible to serve as a delegate to our next AORN Congress in New Orleans March 24-29, 2012.

Greig, Diane Klak, Queola Brooks, Geneva Sarratt, Teresa Washington, Veronica Lenin, Annette Pirozek, Jackie Lantis
Jan Dolcini, Regina Griffin, Laura Farabaugh, Barbara Bonus, and Peg Reder.  We have 16 slots to fill.  Please let Linda
Bowen know if you wish to serve.
New Business:
Clare Keiser received a gift brick which will be placed on the walkway at the AORN Foundation in commemoration for her
service to our chapter from 1971 to present.  This honor requested by her peers Patty Chapek, Nancy Fellows and Judy
Greig. Congratulations Clare!
Barbara Bonus reported the passing of our former Chapter President Ruth Ericson, MSN, RN.  If anyone is interested
she wrote a book My Stroke…My Life ISBN 0-9768822-0-5.  Condolence was sent November 6, 2011.

Laurie Gronowski asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting, it was moved by Clare Keiser and seconded by Geneva
Sarratt.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 1929.
